Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah, is an American rapper actress and singer. Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper and performer. Queen Latifah is the daughter of an Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was raised and born in Newark New Jersey. The couple split at the age of Latifah, then ten years was ten years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. In her early twenties Her cousin gifted Latifah the name of a stage Latifah which translates to gentle and loving in Arabic. Latifah's 5'10" height was enough to make her a formidable athlete during high school. She sang "Home" from The Wiz during a play in her high school. Latifah started to beatbox for the rap group Ladies Fresh. Latifah was among the founding members of the version of the Flavor Unit which at that time consisted of MCs grouped around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King, recorded a version of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. He gave it back to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music, who worked for Latifah in the early days was awed by her single. In 1988, she dropped Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's debut single.
